New Zealand Association of Scientists

Marsden Fund Open Letter

Dear Researcher,

The attached open letter to the Minister of Science requests a phased tripling of the Marsden Fund. It has currently been signed by more than 430 researchers.

Many outstanding research proposals are turned down and an up to 93% rejection rate is simply unacceptable. The problem is of course the available funds and not the funding process.

If you support the general thrust of the open letter please send an email of support to marsdenfund@gmail.com with "support" in the subject line and your full name and institution in the first line of the body of the email. Comments are welcome. Those not supporting may also reply with "do not support" in the subject line. Again, comments would be welcome. However, replies to all emails cannot be guaranteed.

The open letter you view here will be regularly updated with co-signatory names as they indicate their support.

With thanks,
Jeff Tallon
