New Zealand Association of Scientists

NZAS policy-related activities

The NZAS prepares policy and discussion papers on science policy issues it considers to be of importance, and makes submissions to relevant science sector consultation processes.

The NZAS also meets with members of Cabinet and the opposition to discuss issues of importance to science in New Zealand, and contributes scientific input to public debate.

In 2005 NZAS established a regular (six-monthly) meeting schedule with MoRST and we had several meetings with FoRST representatives, which we hope will also become a regular occurence. These meetings provide NZAS with the opportunity to talk to MoRST and FoRST, two of the major policy and funding instruments of the New Zealand science system, about scientists' concerns in a direct yet mutually inclusive and informal manner.
